Governor Bob Holden has released $83-Million in withheld state funds to schools. $75-Million of that goes to elementary and secondary edcuation. The rest goes to colleges and universities. Holden says he can release the money for education because the state is getting an unexpected federal payment to offset medicaid expenses. He says the release of the money will help school funding a little bit. But he says it does not solve major budget problems the state is facing now and will face in the next fiscal year. Holden does not know if he will release more money later. He says that depends on whether state revenue continues to show improvement.
