The new man in charge of representing Democrats in the Missouri House says he can work with majority Republicans, despite his reputation as a fierce, partisan debater.Representative Rick Johnson (D-High Ridge) says that reputation was built on his efforts to keep Republican leaders from trying to embarrass Governor Holden, a Democrat. And Johnson adds those sharp clashes during House floor debate earlier this year often appeared more contentious than they actually were. Johnson is asking Republicans to work with Democrats in the upcoming session. He says, together, they can solve the state’s problems, but Republican leadership has to be more willing to listen to Democrats. Johnson replaces Representative Mark Abel (D-Festus), who is stepping down to run for State Treasurer.
