We’re two months away from the two sides on the concealed weapons issue having their State Supreme Court shootout. Ten individuals and organizations have won the first round in court, getting an injunction declaring the law unconstitutional. Lawyer Burton Newman expects to raise several issues when the Supreme Court hears arguments January 22nd. Attorney General Jay Nixon is defending the law. He says he and his staff will be ready for anything Newman and his supporters bring up. Nixon filed a 61-page brief before the court set the hearing date to show that he and his staff would be ready for the early date. His brief uses words such as “absurd” …”simply wrong.” …and “makes little sense,” in appraising the arguments of the challengers. Challenger Newman uses a much different word—“meritorious.”
