The State Supreme Court has set a January 22, 2004 hearing on the lawsuit challenging the state concealed weapons law. The court will hear oral arguments on the law enacted by the legislature over the veto of Governor Holden. A St. Louis Circuit Judge has ruled the law violates the state constitution. Attorney General Jay Nixon appealed that ruling to the State Supreme Court. He had asked for December 3rd hearing on the case. The legislature approved the bill during the regular legislative session this year. Holden vetoed it, but the legislature overrode that veto in September. The judge ruled the law violates a provision in the state constitution that he reads as prohibiting Missourians from carrying concealed weapons.
