Doctors at Washington University’s School of Medicine in St. Louis are making strides in an area of cancer research. Doctor Kathy Weilbaecher, the lead researcher, says the experimentation focuses on using drugs to inhibit the spread of certain cancers to bones and other parts of the body by stopping the spread of platelets – or cell particles – that carry the cancer. She adds these drugs are already being used for other purposes. The experimentation is currently being conducted on mice, and it’s very promising. But, it could be several years before it’s ready for use on humans.
