One of Kansas City’s most famous restaurants has closed after more than a half-century. It’s the Golden Ox. The company has closed the historic restaurant in the old Livestock Exchange Building in what used to be the stockyards. A second Golden Ox, in Overland Park, Kansas, also has closed. About 110 people have lost their jobs. The owner says high beef prices and a struggling economy have made the decision for him. He says he’s negotiating with some people who want to reopen the original restaurant.
