A State Representative plans to file legislation to add climbing walls to the state’s amusement park statutes which require inspections of rides. A bill that State Representative Chuck Graham of Columbia plans to file aims to strengthen the current amusement park statutes which require annual inspection of rides with mechanical devices. Climbing walls, which are becoming increasingly popular, are equipped with mechanical devices. But, Graham says owners and operators can remove the devices to get around the law. The legislation was prompted by last summer’s death of a Jefferson City woman who fell from a climbing wall at a Mid-Missouri Mavericks’ baseball game in Columbia. The wall in Columbia was equipped with the devices, but that wall had not been inspected. The owner, Marcus Floyd, has been indicted by a Boone County grand jury on charges of first-degree involuntary manslaughter.
