The 154-year relationship between William Jewell College and the Missouri Baptist Convention is about to end. William Jewell’s president has told editors of the Kansas City Star that the break is imminent. The Missouri Baptist Convention meets next week. Its proposed budget for the next year includes no money for William Jewell. The school usually gets $850,000 to $1-Million from the convention – about three percent of its budget. The Convention is reportedly upset about the school’s policy about homosexuality, that the school allowed a play about women’s sexuality and issues to be performed, and about the school’s lack of response to convention concerns.
