State Transportation Director Henry Hungerbeeler says the Legislature will be asked next year to approve some toll roads, including some toll facilities on Interstate 70. Hungerbeeler has told a Kansas City audience the department does not plan, as he put it, “a toll booth on every corner,” though. Hungerbeeler says he apologizes for MoDOT’s failure to meet all of the commitments in the 15-year road plan of 1992, but he says it is a fact that all of the projects promised could not be built with the money available. He says toll roads would be one way to raise the money the department needs for its work.
