State Auditor Claire McCaskill is making an announcement, Monday, regarding her run for Missouri Governor. And, a news release from claireonline.com indicates McCaskill will take on Governor Holden for the Democratic nomination. The media advisory states, in part, “Missouri State Auditor Claire McCaskill will announce Monday her intentions to run for Governor.” McCaskill was elected, last year, to a second term as Auditor. Previously, she served as a state legislator and Jackson County Prosecutor. McCaskill’s announcement will set up the first challenge to a sitting Governor from within his own party, since 1980, when State Treasurer Jim Spainhower challenged incumbent Governor Joseph Teasdale. The challenge wounded Teasdale who lost the general election to Christopher Bond.
