AG’s Office Warns Of New Scam

October 16, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

An attempted rip off of a Bootheel woman is being used as a warning for other Missouri consumers to beware of con artists. The woman grew suspicious of the call from Canada promising $100,000 in prize money from North American and European awards when the caller asked her to send $2,300 to get the prize out of customs. She called her banker who called Canada and uncovered the scam. She didn’t send the money. Attorney General spokesman Scott Holste warns consumers to beware of fantastic offers, because he says while the office has succeeded in prosecuting con artists, there is no way the law can catch them all. Holste advises consumers who become suspicious of an offer to call the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Hoteline at 1-800-392-8222.
