St. Louis County Executive Buzz Westfall is seriously ill and has been hospitalized. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Councilmember Greg Quinn of Ballwin, Chairman of the St. Louis County Council, has been named Acting County Executive, perhaps the first time the county has named a temporary executive because the executive was too ill to perform his duties. Westfall is at Christian Hospital Northeast. He was to undergo back surgery October 6th, but doctors discovered an infection and postponed the surgery. Sources told the Post-Dispatch the infection has proven difficult to treat and that Westfall is sedated because of pain.
