AG Launches Lawsuits Against Accused E-Mail Spammers

October 10, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

Attorney General Jay Nixon has filed lawsuits against two companies violating Missouri’s anti-spam law. Spam is the term for unwanted e-mails, often times from comapnies trying to sell something. The new law requires spam to be labeled with the letters ADV in the first four characters of the subject line and must identify itself if there is adult-material in it. One lawsuit is against Phillip Nixon of Palm Beach, Florida, who is alleged to have sent five unsolicited e-mails trying to sell an architectural plan tothe address [email protected] – the Attorney General’s e-mail address for reporting unwanted spam. Attorney General Nixon says the sender should have got a clue when the words NO SPAM were in the address. The other lawsuit is against Fundetective.com of Boca Raton, Florida. Each could face a $5,000 fine for each violation.
