Two Missouri sheriffs have recently resigned in the face of an investigation of their activities by the Attorney General, but no criminal charges have been filed against them. Sheriffs in Jasper and DeKalb Counties have resigned, both saying they have done nothing wrong with their management of their offices. Both were under investigation by the Attorney General. Attorney General Jay Nixon says he found some irregularities in what they were doing. Nixon has not filed any criminal charges against either one. He says the resignations eliminate the need for that. Nixon says he was prepared to file papers to force them out of office if they had not resigned. He says information in his investigation can be used in civil actions against those sheriffs.
