State investigators say former DeKalb County Sheriff Brad Mefford falsified mileage claims, misused a computer, sexually harassed employees, mishandled evidence and money, and improperly executed a search warrant. Mefford left office as sheriff September 30th. He says the investigation is not the reason he resigned and he denies any wrongdoing. The list of allegations is in the investigation report obtained by the St. Joseph News-Press under the state’s open records law. The DeKalb county prosecutor asked for the special investigation last April. The attorney general became a special prosecutor. A spokesman for the Attorney General says Mefford’s resignation ends the investigation.
