No more Gideon Bibles in the Elsberry School District in Marion County. The school district has been allowing the Gideons to make presentations to fifth-graders and distribute Bibles to students who ask for them. But a parent complained to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which called the school. The school district has checked with its attorney and has decided not to allow the Gideons to pass out religious materials to students during the school day. The parent who complained said he felt the distribution of Bibles during school hours violates the constitutional separation of church and state.
