A group of education officials from Missouri has returned home from a conference in Washington, D.C., at which the importance of civic education was studied and discussed. Among those taking part in the trip to Washington was Stan Johnson, School Superintendent of the School of the Osage. He says Missouri is doing better than many other states in teaching civics, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Johnson and the others reached several key findings at the Washington gathering, including the principle that civic education should be seen as a core subject. Attendees have agreed to push to make sure that teachers involved in civic education be given the resources they need.
