State Senator On Active Military Duty Told To Avoid Politics

September 20, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

State Senator Jon Dolan of Lake St. Louis is going to have to steer clear of politics while on active military duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Dolan, who returned to Jefferson City to cast crucial votes during the recent veto session of the Legislature, has been banned by the military from future political activity while on duty. Dolan is a major in the Army National Guard. Democrats have questioned his return to the State Capitol, pointing to directives regarding active military personnel and their ability to engage in politics. St. Louis Congressman Lacy Clay says he’s looking into requesting a hearing, in Washington, on the issue of Dolan being allowed to vote. Whatever happens will have no effect on Dolan’s votes during the override session.
