A man under death sentence in Texas is charged with murdering a 13-year-old girl in Springfield. Inmate Tommy Lynn Sells is charged with strangling Stephanie Mahaney in 1997. The girl’s body was found in a pond a month after she disappeared. Sells had told a couple of Texas rangers three years ago that he had killed a girl somewhere between Rolla and Joplin. He described clothing Stephanie Mahaney was wearing and when he was shown her picture, he said that was the girl he killed. Sells is reported to have confessed to at least a dozen murders in Missouri and seven other states.
