The Rams avoided starting the season 0-2 with a 27-24 win over the 49ers at the Dome in St. Louis. After taking a 24-17 lead late in the fourth quarter, the Rams defense couldn’t stop San Francisco as they drove 85 yards in eleven plays for a touchdown. Jeff Garcia hit Terrell Owens for a 13 yard endzone strike with :19 to go in regulation. But St. Louis stepped up in overtime. Arlen Harris, who fumbled a punt that lead to a 49er score earlier in the game, took the overtime kick off all the way to the Rams 48 yard line. They marched the ball down to the 49ers’ eleven yard line to set up Jeff Wilkins’ 28-yard field goal to win it. Marc Bulger was 25-36 for 236 yards passing and two touchdowns. Marshall Faulk had 57 yards and a touchdown on the ground and caught four passes for 33 yards. Faulk injured his eye when his helmet somehow poked him. He left for a while but returned. He complained of lost, blurry and double vision.
