The Royals had the lead, lost the lead, and then rallied to beat the Indians 9-7 at Kauffman. The Royals jumped out to a 2-0 advantage thanks to Rondell White’s double in the first inning. Joe Randa made it 3-0 with an RBI double in the second. But the Indians got to Brian Anderson by scoring a run in the third and five more in the fourth. Kansas City took the lead for good with a five-run rally of their own in the fifth. It was capped by Brent Mayne’s double. He was credited for two RBI’s when White and Raul Ibanez scored. Angel Berroa touched the plate thanks to a throwing error. Mayne, White, Mike Sweeney and Joe Randa finished with two RBI’s. Kris Wilson was the winner in an inning of relief and Jeremy Affeldt tossed a perfect 2 1/3 innings of relief to get his fourth save of the season. The Royals cut their lead in the A.L. Central to three-and-a half-games. The Twins beat the White Sox 4-1.
