The Cardinals fell further back in the National League Central race with Tuesday’s 8-1 loss to the Rockies. Rookie Dan Haren got the start for St. Louis and lasted just three innings allowing four runs off three hits, two of which were home runs. In the second inning, Greg Zaun hit a three run homer and Todd Helton went deep with a solo shot in the third inning. Haren dropped to 3-4 on the season, while Rockies starter Jason Jennings improved to 12-12, ending a six game losing streak on the road. St. Louis certainly had their chances, but went 1-13 with men in scoring position, stranding ten runners. The loss dropped the Cardinals two and a half games behind the Astros and Cubs, who both won on Tuesday.
