Paul Abbott and Jeremy Affeldt combined for a five-hitter as the Royals topped the Angels 3-0. Abbot lasted seven innings and gave up all five of those hits to earn his first win as a Royal. Affeldt put the Angels down in order in the eighth and ninth innings to get his third save of the season. At the plate, the two pitchers were aided by Aaron Guiel and Carlos Beltran who drove in runs with a homer and sacrifice fly. Ken Harvey made it 3-0 with a solo homer in the sixth inning. The Royals took two of four from the Angels and are three games out of first in the A.L. Central. The White Sox and Twins are tied for first place.
