The Royals’ ninth inning rally left them short of moving up in the American League Central. Kansas City fell to Texas 8-7 in Arlington. Mike Sweeney’s two run homer in the first and Carlos Beltran’s RBI triple in the third gave Kansas City a 3-0 lead over the Rangers. But Texas bounced back with four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to take an 8-3 lead. Jeremy Affeldt was charged with six runs off seven hits, completing one inning. It remained 8-3, until the Royals rallied for four runs in the ninth. Sweeney capped the rally with a two-run single. Aaron Guiel and Raul Ibanez ended the game with back-to-back strikeouts. The White Sox fell to the Red Sox 2-1, so the Royals still trial by two games but they fell to third place.
