The newest bridge across the Mississippi River is to be opened on December 13th – weather permitting. The State Transportation Department says the weather has to remain nice enough for the driving surface to be properly put down and for cables to be treated. But if it does, the new Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge at Cape Girardeau will be open before Christmas. The new bridge replaces one that is 75- years-old is narrow and crumbling. It’s taken seven years to build the new bridge.
