Mike Sweeney thought he had been hit on the hand in the 8th inning. Instead, he was called out on strikes. Thankfully for the Royals, Sweeney kept his cool. Three innings later, Sweeney’s RBI single gave the Royals a 6-5 win over Texas, and moved Kansas City back into a first-place tie with Chicago. Paul Abbott threw six shutout innings, but was taken out after a rain delay of one hour, 42 minutes. Texas scored four runs in the 8th, and tied the game in the 9th when Alex Rodriguez smashed his second home run of the night. But Sweeney’s single in the 11th scored Joe Randa, giving the Royals the win.
