Democratic Party Chief Criticized For Dolan Comments

August 13, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

A former VFW official and former State Representative from Warrenton is unhappy with comments made by May Scheve, the Chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party. As State Senator Jon Dolan of Lake St. Louis was preparing to leave for a six-month stay in Cuba as part of his National Guard duties, Scheve told the St. Charles Women’s Coalition of St. Charles., “It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Don’t hurry back.” Former State Representative Russell Brockfeld of Warrenton understands there are political differences, but believes this is the wrong thing to be saying to someone heading off to serve his country. Brockfeld says comments like Scheve’s are a slap to all veterans and to those currently serving in the military. Scheve could not be reached for comment. But, a Democratic Party official says Scheve’s comment was tongue-in-cheek and that she wishes Dolan and his family well.
