Garrett Stephenson returned to the Cardinal rotation in a big way. Stephenson threw a complete-game four-hitter, as the Redbirds topped Montreal 2-1 on Tuesday. Scott Rolen provided all the offense Stephenson would need with a solo home run in the second inning and a game-winning sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth. Stephenson threw 102 pitches in a game that took just 2:04. He struck out four and walked no one. Houston’s loss to Atlanta moved the Cardinals to within two games of the National League Central Division lead.
