State Auditor Claire McCaskill plans to announce in October whether she will take on Governor Bob Holden in next August’s Democratic primary for Governor. McCaskill wants to wait until after the dust has settled from the veto session and any special session the Governor wants to have. Then she’ll announce. She’s been raising hundreds of thousands of dollars – although Governor Holden has outraised her two to one. McCasklll says it will be a relief to make the announcement – regardless of which way she goes. McCaskill says this is not a game she’s playing. She says she’s been listening to a lot of people who say they’re not hearing anybody put forth a vision for solving the state’s problems. She says Missouri has to get beyond the most bitter partisanship it has seen at the capitol in the 20 years she’s been in state and local office. She says when both sides take unreasonable positions – and it’s clear differences can’t be resolved – good leaders will find other ways to get things done. She says that’s not happening now. October, she says, she’ll let us know if she thnks she can do better.
