The Cardinals were off yesterday, but may have gotten some help in the bullpen. They signed veteran reliever Pedro Borbon and assigned him to Triple-A Memphis. Borbon hasn’t played in the majors since last year when he split time between the Blue Jays and Astros. He appeared in 72 games last season and had an ERA of 5.36. He struck out 50 and walked 25, going 4-4. Borbon played for the Braves from 1992-1996 and didn’t play in the majors at all until catching on with the Dodgers in ’99 and moving on to Toronto in 2000. This year he was playing with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.
