Whistle-Blower Award Against Enterprise Rent-A-Car Tossed

July 23, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

A judge has thrown out a $4-Million jury award in a whistleblower case against Enterprise Rent-A-Car. A jury had voted 9-3 in April to give the money to former Enterprise Vice President Thomas P. Dunn. The judge says Dunn is not eligible for whistleblower protections. Enterprise says Dunn was fired for violating the company culture of teamwork, and for other business reasons. He says he was fired for refusing to cook the books to make the company look stronger before a public stock offering. But the judge says he cannot claim to have been fired for refusing to do an illegal act because Enterprise never carried through with the stock offering. Dunn will appeal.
