The Cardinals shaky starting pitching got shakier after Matt Morris was struck in the knuckle on his pitching hand by a line drive hit by Mark Kotsay last night. Morris left the game with two outs in the first inning. He’ll have the knuckle re-examined today. Jason Simontacchi came out of the bullpen, allowing two runs off six hits over 2 1/3 innings. Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, St. Louis rallied for three runs to take the lead. Tino Martinez and Kerry Robinson drove in runs with singles; Jim Edmonds scored on a throwing error. The Cards took a 5-4 lead in the seventh with Albert Pujols’ run scoring single, giving him 91 RBI’s. But San Diego tied it at five with Sean Burroughs’ sacrifice fly. The game went to the tenth inning where Miguel Ojeda hit a pinch-hit homer, ending the game. Lance Painter gave up the losing run and got the loss. St. Louis remained three games out of first in the N.L. Central.
