The Royals continue to have a flair for the dramatic. They blew a 5-0 lead yesterday only to beat the Mariners 7-5 in ten innings. Carlos Beltran’s two-run homer ended the game, as the Royals took three of four from the Mariners. Seattle chipped away at Kansas City’s five-run cushion in the seventh inning, when Dan Wilson hit a two run homer to make it 5-2. Jon Olerud made it 5-3 with a double in the eighth. In the ninth inning, Mike MacDougal failed to get his 25th save when John Mabry homered and Mark McLemore tied it with an RBI double. Kris Wilson was able to get the last two outs of a scoreless tenth inning to improve to 5-0. Runelvys Hernandez, who is still on a pitch count, lasted 5 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and no runs, lowering his ERA to 2.79. The Royals used seven pitchers on Sunday. The win allowed Kansas City to keep their lead over the Twins at six and a half gamesin the American League Central. The Twins swept the A’s over the weekend. The Royals took three of four from the Mariners.
