According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mike Shannon is close to signing a four-year contract extension with the Cardinals’ radio network. The contract will end in 2006, but Shannon would like to go a year past that to give him 50 seasons with teh Cardinals. He signed with the team as a player in 1958 and made it to the big leagues in 1962, playing nine seasons. His career was cut short in 1970 by a rare kidney disease. He joined the front office in 1971 and moved into the broadcast booth in 1972.
