The dismantling of Farmland Industries, once the nation’s biggest farm cooperatives, continues with Farmland accepting an offer from Smithfield Foods to buy its pork processing business for $353-Million. Farmland is in bankruptcy. It had rejected a Farmland offer more than a year ago. A federal bankruptcy judge has to approve the deal. The judge has approved the sale of Farmland’s part of Farmland National Beef. US Premium Beef is paying $232-Million.
