Albert Pujols fell one home run short of Garret Anderson of the Angels in the finals of last night’s home run derby, losing 9-8. Pujols, started slowly, hitting just four homers in round one. Luckily for him, it was enough to move on to the semifinals where he met last year’s winner, Jason Giambi. Pujols got into a groove in round two, bashing 14 home runs. That tied Giambi’s single round record. But the defending champ made it interesting hitting 11 long balls but it wasn’t enough and Pujols moved on to the finals. Anderson was a modicum of consistency. He hit seven homers in round one, knocked out Jim Edmonds in round two with six and hit just enough in the finals to beat Pujols.
