The department that runs our prisons is not struggling with budget setbacks of the scope of other departments, because there’s little room to cut the Corrections Department. Department Director Gary Kempker says his agency isn’t getting what it asked for, but it’s adequate. The department asked for $591-Million for this fiscal year. The Legislature cut $16-Million. Kempker says much of that cut will come through adminstrative reductions and other cuts in purchasing and other operations.
