The head of the NAACP is criticizing St. Louis Congressman Richard Gephardt and two of the other Democratic presidential hopefuls, saying the three have become “persona non grata” among black voters. NAACP President Kweisi Mfume lashed out at Gephardt, Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, and Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich for skipping the group’s presidential forum in Florida. The six other Democratic hopefuls attended the forum. Gephardt bowed out, saying he had a prior family obligation.
