The Royals lost to the Angels 5-3, but it wasn’t without excitement. After getting down 2-0, Kansas City rallied for three runs to make it 3-2. With two outs Brent Mayne was intentionally walked and Ken Harvey was on third. Mayne headed towards second base on a steal, stopping about thirty feet shy of second base. Simultaneously, Harvey headed home where he collided with Bengie Molina who held onto the ball for the third out. Shawn Wooten blasted a three-run homer off Jeremy Affeldt in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-3. The Royals rally in the ninth inning was dampened when Jarrod Patterson was thrown out after tagging up on an Aaron Guiel fly ball. Affeldt got the loss, dropping to 5-5. The Royals still lead the Twins by four and a half games in the American League Central.
