A rough first inning led to a loss last night as the Cardinals fell to the Dodgers 6-5. Scott Rolen’s RBI single tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third. But in the top of the fourth, Brett Tomko allowed five runs off four hits giving L.A. a 6-1 lead. The Cardinals rallied for four more runs but couldn’t capitalize on other opportunities. Albert Pujols was 0-4, striking out with the bases loaded in the sixth, ending the inning. That ended a two-run rally. Rolen hit his 17th homer of the season in the seventh inning to make it 6-5. That was the final run scored in the game. Tomko dropped to 5-6 on the season and is winless in his career at Busch Stadium. St. Louis fell into second place with the Cubs. The two teams trail the Astros by one game in the National League Central.
