Cards Finish 1-5 Vs. Giants

July 9, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

The Cardinals wrapped up their season series against the Giants with an 8-3 loss. St. Louis was 1-5 against San Francisco. Rookie starter Danny Haren was knocked out of the game in the second inning after giving up six runs, five of which were earned. Jose Cruz Jr. erased a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a three run homer, which landed in McCovey Cove. Cruz drove in another run in the second inning as the Giants scored three more times to make it 6-1. Jim Edmonds, Albert Pujols and J.D. Drew drove in the Cardinals runs. The Cardinals loss allowed the Astros to move into a first place tie in the N.L. Central. Two Cardinals will be swinging for the fences next week; Jim Edmonds and Albert Pujols will be in the Home Run Derby.
