Jerome Williams had too much for the Cardinals on Monday as San Francisco downed St. Louis 5-1. Williams held the Cardinals to just seven hits in a complete-game win. Garrett Stephenson was touched for three runs in the first inning. He served up a two-run homer to Marquis Grissom and a solo shot to Barry Bonds. St. Louis’ only run came in the third inning off a Jim Edmonds single, which scored Chris Widger. Grissom and Bonds drove in runs in the seventh inning to make it 5-1. Cardinal’s outfielder J.D. Drew missed his second straight game with a sore knee. He was scratched at the last minute. Albert Pujols’ batting average dropped to .370 after an 0-4 performance. With the loss St. Louis’ lead in the National League Central dropped to one game over the Cubs and Astros.
