A late surge not only put Albert Pujols in the starting lineup at this month’s All-Star game, it also made him the National League’s leading vote-getter. Pujols received 2,030,702 votes, with nearly 70 percent of those votes coming from online ballots. Fellow Redbirds Scott Rolen and Edgar Renteria were also selected as starters by the fans. Outfielder Jim Edmonds and pitcher Woody Williams were also selected as reserves. The first-place Royals will have two representatives at an All-Star Game for the first time since 2000. First baseman Mike Sweeney and closer Mike MacDougal were both selected to the American League team as reserves. MacDougal is tied for the A.L. lead with 24 saves.
