Two members of Missouri’s Congressional delegation are leading a legislative effort to protect the Pledge of Allegiance. Senator Talent and St. Louis area Congressman Todd Akin are responding to a federal court decision barring the use of the words “under God” in the Pledge in certain states. Talent says that while the lower court ruling is before the U.S. Supreme Court – and he expects the ruling to be overturned – legislation is needed to keep the issue out of the courts in the future. Both Talent and Akin hope to attach the Protect the Pledge Act to another piece of legislation to ensure it can be passed this year.
