St. Louis will host another women’s Final Four. They were awarded the 2009 Final Four yesterday afternoon by the NCAA; St. Louis hosted also hosted it in 2001 to rave reviews. In 2009 it will be played in the dome where they hope to attract upwards of 35,000 fans for the final. St. Louis was also in the running for a men’s Final Four in the 2008-2011 time period but was denied. However, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Coordinating Committee was impressed enough with St. Louis to award the city either the first and second round or a regional in 2007 or 2008. Doug Elgin, commissioner of the Missour Valley Conference thinks St. Louis will get another Final Four by 2013. The Missouri Valley Conference, which is based in St. Louis, was the driving force behind their bid this year and for getting the 2005 men’s Final Four.
