The Royals took sole possession of first in the A.L. Central with a 4-1 win over the Indians. Jose Lima made his third start since joining the team and grabbed his second win. Lima pitched seven innings allowing one run off five hits, improving to 2-0. Aaron Guiel gave Lima some cushion in the fifth inning with a two-run home run. It was Guiel’s second homer of the season. Raul Ibanez and Michael Tucker also drove in runs. Mike MacDougal entered the game in the ninth inning and recorded his 19th save–that’s second best in the American League. The Royals put Mike Sweeney on the disabled list yesterday. The move is retroactive to June 21st, so he won’t be available before July 6. Sweeney had an MRI yesterday, which revealed nerve irritation at the base of his neck. He leads the majors with a .477 average with runners in scoring position. Starting pitcher Runelvys Hernandez will start at least once more in Double A Wichita. Hernandez has been on the DL with an elbow problem since last month. In a start earlier this week in Wichita, he tweaked his groin.
