The Royals beat the Indians 3-1 to hold on to a share of the A.L. Central lead with the Twins. In the top of the 10th inning, Angel Berroa and Desi Relaford hit RBI singles to break a 1-1 tie. Mike MacDougal’s adventures in save opportunities continued last night. He walked a batter in the bottom half of the inning, but still got his 18th save of the season. Jason Gilfillan got his second win in relief, pitching a perfect ninth inning. Kyle Snyder pitched well, despite not being a part of the decision. Snyder allowed one run, giving up six hits. He walked two and struck out five. With the win Kansas City was assured of another series victory. They haven’t lost a set since dropping two of three to the Dodgers at the beginning of the month. The only series they haven’t won in that time was a two-game split with the Diamondbacks. There was one note of concern for the Royals yesterday. First baseman Mike Sweeney was sent home to have an MRI done on his back. He hasn’t played since June 18th.
