All five of the former champions who started the Missouri Amateur are still alive, as the field was been cut to 64 players yesterday. 51-year old Don Bliss, who has won the tournament four times, finished with the second best score at two under. Bliss and KU golfer Jay Sigler trailed Casey Harbour, a former KU golfer, who was five under. Bliss won his first Missouri Amateur in 1972, the year after Tom Watson won his fourth. Bliss’ last title was in 1988. 1999 Missouri Amateur champion, Skip Berkmeyer, wasn’t as sharp as he was on Tuesday. After shooting an opening-round 67, Berkmeyer checked in with a 78 yesterday. Wayne Frederick put up an 81 on day one, but bounced back with a 71 to qualify for match play. Frederick won the title in 1996. Chuck Greene, the 1998 champ and David Lucks, who won it in 1987 also advanced.
