Southwest Missouri State checked in at #8 in the final Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll. This is the Bears best finish ever. They were 40-26 in 2003, advancing to their first College World Series. Two players who head coach Keith Guttin would love to have back next season won’t return. Juniors Shaun Marcum and Chad Mulholland were drafted by and have signed with the Blue Jays. Marcum was a shortstop and relief pitcher at SMS; the Blue Jays drafted him as a pitcher. He recorded 13 saves this season. Mulholland was 10-4 with a 3.08 ERA as a starter for the Bears. Senior Dant’e Brinkley has signed with the Mets. Marcum, Mulholland and Brinkley join seniors Brad Ziegler who’s signed with the Phillies, Greg Mathis who signed with the Diamondbacks and Tony Piazza who signed with the Mets. Junior Bob Zimmerman has yet to sign with the Angels.
