The bankrupt community of Reeds Spring has been told to find a better way to pay a woman the $100,000 she has won in a lawsuit against the town. Reeds Spring is in bankruptcy because of the judgment. It had proposed spreading the payments through 30 years. Too long, says a bankruptcy judge. He’s given the city 20 days to file a better plan and has encouraged the city to raise taxes or issue bonds. The woman sued the city after suffering leg injuries when she stepped into a four-inch deep hole. Reeds Spring has about 400 residents. Paying the judgment in one lump would consume more than 40 percent of the town’s budget.
